Matt looked at the pine tree.  It's green needles were covered in decorations and lights, making Matt glad to be wearing goggles.  The lights were of many colors and made different light patterns in his goggles.  He thought it looked pretty cool.  He sighed and then looked outside.  The warm summer sun shone down on the kids playing outside.  They ran around, smiling and laughing.  Matt picked up the last decoration.  It was a small ornament, maybe the size of a ping-pong ball.  It looked unneeded compared to the other decorations, but it was important to Matt.  He put it at the front, making sure it was very noticeable.  The ornament glittered in the light making Matt grin.  Pulling out a nicely wrapped gift and a card, he put them underneath the Christmas tree.  He giggled and centered them so you could see them the minute you walked in the door.  He hung banners and decorated the room happily.  Suddenly, there was a knock on the locked door.

“Matt?  What are you DOING in there?  I hope you know that that is my room too!  If you so much as TOUCH my stuff I'll shove your DS down your throat!” Matt shivered and hung the last decoration.  He turned off the lights then quickly unlocked the door.  He hid as Mello walked into the room.  “What the?” The look of awe on Mello's face was amazing to Matt.  He thought the boy was, obviously, the most beautiful thing on the earth.  Mello stepped forward, gasping at all the decorations and of course, the tree.  He walked to the tree, utter delight emitting from him.  His leather squeaked as he bent down to grab the gift.  When he looked up, he saw an ornament, carefully placed.  His eyes began to water, and he smiled.  Taking the ornament off the tree, he looked around.  He frowned when he couldn't see Matt anywhere and wondered where he had disappeared to.  He looked back down at his gift and the card.

Written in neat cursive letters was his name and that only.  The letter was thin, but large.  He flipped it to the back and smiled at the small smiling face drawn shakily onto the flap.  He opened the letter carefully, the white paper tearing gently.  When he pulled out the card, a tear dropped down his smiling face.  Such words were written on there that he was simply filled with joy.  With a tiny intake of breath, he opened the card.  More beautiful words were written there and he knew his answer for the boy.  He looked around for Matt again, but still couldn't find him.  He sighed sadly and lay face down on his bed.  Matt watched Mello the whole time and took this chance to sneak out to the main room.  There, he sat next to some kid and began to play his game.

Mello had decided to take a nap as he waited for Matt to show.  The blonde had drifted off sadly, missing the red head; he woke cheerfully, ready to greet the red head.  Matt thought that Mello was probably sitting around, angry, so he figured it was best to go and apologize.  Standing up and turning off his game, Matt headed back to their shared dorm.  When he got there, the lights were still out.  The tree was dancing with lights and Mello stood in front of it.  There was a smile on the boy's face and he walked forward as Matt shut the door.  Mello hugged the red head, a very tight embrace.  He looked up and kissed Matt; the kiss was slow and gentle, but not too drawn out.  Mello pulled back, a peaceful smile on his blushing face.

“Thank you Matt.” Matt smiled nonchalantly.

“No problem Mells.  No problem at all.”

The Card:

Dear Mello:

I just wanted to tell you that I love you more than anything.  Sorry if this proclamation of love scares you, but it needs to be said.  You're the most beautiful thing I've ever seen and I know you've been down lately.  I know you enjoy Christmas, so I thought I'd redo the holiday for you.  With a few of my tweaks of course.  There's not much room left on the card so I'll finish on this note; I love you more than anything Mello.  Please stay with me for far longer than forever.
